Motor disconenct required?

Its required, but does not have to be anything elaborate, or even something that has to be added.

Take a look at 430.109 (B) and (C).
 
What size motor. 430.109 (B) says no disco required if the stationary motor is less than 1/8th Hp. If it's less than 1/8th hp, then no disco is required. The OCPD is the disco in this scenario.

More precisely, does it not say the branch circuit overcurrent device shall be permitted ?
I never thought of it, but does this remove the requirement of 430.102 (B)(1) ?
