Motor Phase Rotation?

Why take a chance? Eliminate the guesswork. We use the "IDEAL" # 61-521, "Phase / Motor Rotation / Tester.
Connect it to the energized motor starter output and it gives you direction of rotation. Connect it to the motor T-Leads, rotate the motor in the correct direction, compare the results. Connect the motor for the correct rotation, and your done.

How fast do you have to rotate the motor shaft for it to indicate rotation? I have rarely taken cap off top of hollow shaft motors for deep wells so I can't recall exactly what you will find inside there, but that would be only place you could possibly turn the shaft by hand.

I have seen a lot of wells with no motor yet, the typical design around here would not let any parts fall into the well. If it did then the pumped water would also find a way into the motor. The well is capped with a sealed shaft sticking out.
