Motor voltage

I have a sheer cutting machine that my customer bought used. The name plate on the motor says 230/460 volt 3-phase / 78 amps @ 230 volt. The service factor is 1.15. The building is 208 volt 3-phase. The machine motor was previously wired @ 460 volt. Question: Can I hook this motor up at 208-volt or do I need a buck boost transformer? I realize the motor will need to be re-wire for the lower voltage, I was was not sure it will run at 208 volt. Thanks for all your graet advice.

Re: Motor voltage

If the motor is not marked like this 208-230/460 but is labeled like this 230/460 I would boost it.

Re: Motor voltage

1. It would a violation of 110.3(B) to use the 230 motor at 208.
2. A motor has a 10% voltage tolerance, 10% 0f 230 is 23 volts, if the 208 system on the low side the motor will see low voltage.
