Mounting Arrangement of Multiple Disconnects

I have to locate 6 30A, 480V/3P Non-fusible disconnects. I am tight on space and I'd like to arrange them with a common trough with three disconnects above the trough and three disconnected below the trough. see below:

I am maintaining all 110.26 working clearances. 30" width, 36" in front. I am confused by having electrical equipment mounted above other electrical equipment. Can two disconnected be mounted above/below each other on a wall?

The only thing I can think of is to make sure the trough doesn't extend 6 or more inches in front of the disconnects, or vice versa.

I think it is part of the installation. The handbook for the 2005 code (followed by NYS) gives an example of a 6" panel and a 12" trough being compliant.

That's kind of what I was thinking, that this is not "equipment associated
with the electrical installation", it is "equipment that is part of the electrical installation", and the 6" would not apply.

I know I've never been called on it?:-?

(3) Height of Working Space. The work space shall be clear and extend from the grade, floor, or platform to the height required by 110.26(E). Within the height requirements of this section, other equipment that is associated with the electrical installation and is located above or below the electrical equipment shall be permitted to extend not more than 150 mm (6 in.) beyond the front of the electrical equipment.

As far as I can tell a trough that extends more than 6" beyond the disconnects is not legal. It states other equip. that is assoc.

Underneath 110.26(A)(3) Height of working space in the "blue box" in the NEC 2005 handbook states

... This requirement allows the placement of a 12 in. X 12 in. wireway on the wall directly above or below a 6 in. deep panelboard without impinging on the working space or compromising practical working clearances. ...

I don't see it. I quoted the section so what does it pertain to if not a trough. Perhaps they mean electrical pipes etc. that are not part of the service.

I think this is open to interpretation- remember the handbook is one persons view and not necessarily correct-- it is a good guidelline, IMO. I have seen services where the panels were held off the wall with angle iron brackets to maintain the depth clearance.

Ok not that this seems dumb, but wouldn't a 12x12" trough above or below a 6" deep panel board still be sticking out 6" thus meeting 110.26(A)(1)(3):confused::roll:

I just think the trough is part of the electrical installation, and 110.26(A)(1)(3) is meaning stuff like mounting brackets and other mounting things?:confused:
