16-20 dollars is no where near enough to run work on a commercial or industrial project, your employer is probably bidding you for at least 35 dolllars an hour on these projects, i dont think its worth the aggravation but then again i dont know your situation

Depends on where you live and what the average wages are in that area. 16-20 might be durn good money in some areas and slave wages in others.

I appreciate all these responses. I understand we dont know each other personally here and we do not know each persons specific situation. The company I work for has probably around 50 employees. We do small to somewhat larger commercial jobs from churches to jailhouse facilities. I dont want to just take orders all my life...I dont want to give orders all my life....I want to challenge myself with my job. If there is a rung to go up then I want to go up. Im not happy with just being a worker...the pay isnt good enough and overall that isnt what I want in my electrical career. If I wanted to just stay in the same position and never move up I wouldnt be on here every day at 4 in the morning with my codebook and other study material. I know the man in charge where I work and I know my knowledge and ability....and if he can do it so can I. I understand being in charge brings different responsibilities. I understand that a job can turn a wrong corner in a second and I would be responsible for coming up with a solution. Im not saying the men I have worked for are incompitent, but if you worked under them you would have to ask yourself about your own compitence. "If they are in charge where does that put me in the big scheme of things?" Its hard working everyday wondering If I could be the one in charge and how the job would be going if I were. I just want a shot, but I dont want to jump to soon....then again how do you ever know if you can until you do?

I have herd that many companies will give the foreman's job to the first guy that comes in that can even spell "competence". It's not much of a criteria to go on but it does seem to weed out quite a few.

Just a bit of humor to brighten up your day. :D Don't take it seriously.
