5/8" + 5/8" = 10/8" = 1-2/8" = 1-1/4" mud ring as Will said.
That would end up being about 1/8" recessed (8-32 screw heads).

1 1/4" mud ring is pretty common in commercial. Esspecially goverment buildings.
