We are trying to locate some boxes for mounting inside a door frame facing. However we can not find anyone who makes them. We know they exist because we have one in our hands. My question is this. Are these boxes now illegal due to box fill? Maybe that is why I can't find them. The box is 3-25/32 H X 1-5/16 W X 1-5/8 D.

Dewayne,

Yes they still make them, They have always come from the door manafacture

of the ones I have used. Mostly used for low voltage, and not spliced inside

of the 'box' so fill is not a problem.

These boxes seem barely legal to use. A rough guess is that they are about 8 cu in volume. That means you could use one 14/2 AC cable with one device. Having said that we used a lot of them back in the 80's. Don't know if they were ever really code compliant.

Tried that, but the device mounting hole are 1/4" too close together.
A drill would take care of that. Make new holes (1/8" inward) in the mounting strap; maybe one new hole (1/4" inward) will work.
