Is it permissiable to run nm cable home runs from one unit across the attic of another unit to the two services on one end of the building. The panels are mounted on the exterior, so they will be accessable. The question is can these branch circuits cross the attic or does a feeder need to be installed to the other unit and a sub panel installed. Does 210.25(A) cover this?
 
I believe you can run the home runs across the attic. 210.25 doesn't allow a branch circuit from 1 unit to supply devices in another unit or common area. As long as you keep the home runs to the proper units form it's panel you're ok. JMHO
 
bkelly, I don't think there is a problem running the homeruns thru the attic, 210.25(A) is

saying that each dwelling unit shall only feed circuits coming from that dwellings panel.
 
It is allowed. I don't like it but noboy cares. It is done all over Florida. If you have a fire, you can take out the services of 8 or more apts in a 2 story 16 unit building. A common structure here.
 
No NEC issues. There would be fire partition penetrations to consider though. Also if it were a condo a utility easement might be needed to allow access for future repairs.

I appreciate your responses, our local AHJ requires this, but I found nothing in NEC to back it up. Thanks again.
