MULTI GROUNDED NEUTRAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM

One of our local plan checkers who educates inspectors thru IAEI, reviewed Mike Holt's illustrated publication on NEC 680 for pools, which are found between power poles in back yards of urban track homes.

He believed Holt provides the best description on the topic he'd ever seen.

Code compliant pools are built like a Faraday cage, with every piece grounded & bonded at the same potential to earth.

No matter how lightning strikes, or utility current may flow thru it, no one is supposed to notice.

"The multigrounded neutral system is the predominant electrical distribution system used in the United States. It permits an uncontrolled amount of electric current to flow over the earth unrestrained, posing the potential of harm to the public and to animals causing electric shocks and is presumed responsible for undetected electrocutions. To compound the problem of uncontrolled current over the earth, utility practices place harmful current from lightning strokes directly into customers' homes".
