Multiple Neutrals in same box

When you have neutrals from different circuits but the same system contained in the same junction box, is it permissible to tie them all together?

Thanks,

That not only creates parallel paths for the neutral, as Bob points out, but if this is resi work, it will cause problems with the functionality of your AFCI's. There is definitely a certain "style" of installer who connects all the whites together, but this has always been wrong. It also creates a hazard for the person servicing the installation in the future.

1/0 and larger.

Bob?

Do you think he was talking about wire nutting multiple neutrals together that are 1/0 and larger?

I kind of assumed he was talking 12s and 14s. :)

That would be one big wire nut. Probably have to put in on with an impact wrench.

No I didn't.

Just wondering why that article was refrenced

'Cause it's the right code section? :)

That section, outside of it's exceptions does not permit the paralleling of conductors smaller then 1/0. If you have multiple circuits in a box and tie all the neutrals together then you have put at least some of them in parallel.

Lets not overlook this very important point of Marc's

Basically your GFCIs and AFCIs can start tripping because of these paralleled neutrals.

Friz is a few Mountain Dew's short of alert.

I'll buy that. How much do I owe you?

House wiring is the least of my EMF worries....

If you really want to scare yourself, go out and buy a gauss meter and try getting away from high levels of EMF's... ;)
