I am currently working (quoting) on a project at an aircraft hanger that manufacturers planes inside. A service upgrade will be needed to accomodate their new equipment. There are three tenants of this hanger and the main service and all disconnects are located on the North side of the building. Unfortunatley, the hanger we are working with is on the far south side. I have spoken to the utility and they say that they can easily set a new transformer on the south side for a new a service for this company. Article 230 says that a building is allowed to have more than one service if it is large enough to need it. The chief building inspector will not let us do it (yet) because the tenant spaces do not have a two hour fire separation between them. Has anyone encountered a problem like this? Building a two hour separation is out of the question (due to cost). Any ideas or code related articles that will help me get this to pass through the building dept would be appreciated.
