multiple tankless water heaters

I've seen some old threads on this but...I'm wiring a new hunting lodge and calling it a dwelling for the purposes of calculating the service (has a kitchen, and several sleeping rooms, each with a bathroom) The owner wants to go with tankless heaters, probably 80 amps each. Can those be figured under 220.82 (B). If there are 5 units @20KW each, (haven't seen them yet), would that be (5x20kw)x.4? That would be 166.6 amps @240 volts. Thanks, Mike
 
I'm not sure, would they be considered appliances ?

I think they might be, beause (I assume) they are heating water ,and are not heating space. I think item 3 is more what you have

"The nameplate rating of all appliances that are fastened in place, permanently connected, or located to be on a specific circuit, ranges, wall mounted ovens, counter mounted cooking units, clothes dryers and water heaters."

I don't see how these would be any different than a standard water heater. In both cases, if someone lets the water run, the units will be in a constant heating mode. So I think the answer is yes.

Don't forget to add 100% of the first 10KW of something on the 220.82(B) list.

WHoops... I thought he was applying item 6 from 220.82(c) ,.. In this case the result would be the same. 40%

Yes, I see it as highly likely at least 3 or more would be in use at the same time once in a while.

Not if the result would merely be the main breaker tripping.

That tends to be a fast educator on how to use hot water.

Yes that will be a quick lesson with a tankless, of course the lights going out while your showing should be a tip off. :D
