Multipole Breakers / Handle Ties

Can someone tell me what code cycle required the use of multipole breakers and or handle ties while sharing a neutral?

It first appeared in the 2008 NEC. It existed prior to that for furniture partitions.

210.4(B) Disconnecting Means. Each multiwire branch circuit
shall be provided with a means that will simultaneously
disconnect all ungrounded conductors at the point where
the branch circuit originates.

2008 was when it was required for all MWBC's. There were still some instances where it was required before then.
