Since meter bases are 3+ months to a year on backorder at every supply house I've called, I've had to resort to looking on eBay and the like. If I had a choice, I would need one 3-ph 200-amp meter and two 3-ph 125-amp meters. Since beggars can't be choosers I have found three 200-amp meters, one set of meters made by Eaton and another set made by Murray. Both of the meters are OH/UG entrance NEMA 3R UL Listed lever bypass meters.

Both my electrician and Duke Energy say both will work. My electrician seems to have no real preference but he doesn't want to be bothered with it since it's eBay and time is money (which I get). If I go with the Eaton meters it's about $3K for all three meters, or I can go with the Murray meters for $2500.

My question is if it's worth spending the extra $500 for the Eaton brand meters or just go with the Murray meters and save the $500.

In full disclosure these are being installed by a licensed/insured electrician on a permitted job for me. I hope this post is benign enough to be tolerable.

There are other factors that might come into play from purchase thru sources like Ebay that could make the product unusable. For instance, are they new in box, or removed used ones (common on Ebay) that may have significant issues not disclosed or visible from a photo? If your not an electrician, best advice would be to rely on your electrician to have the expertise to judge the best options for your equipment and compliance to codes for safety.
