Maxis makes some pretty cool stuff, but its awful pricey.....
maxis, compared with greenlee, or whoever, on the same type of item, is pretty
reasonably priced. the footpedals however, have no competition that i know
of, and it's a limited production thing, so it's not going to have the economy
of scale working for it.
lot's of stuff is pricey, including injuries from a wire pulling accident. the wire
pull that prompted the purchase of the foot pedals didn't involve injury. we
were pulling feeders into hot gear. i did the tugger, and someone with similar
experience level as myself did the feed. everything was blanketed in the gear.
the tugger was right next to the chiller rack, and between the tugger
and the chillers, hearing the cellphone was impossible, and my bluetooth wasn't
working... i've since replaced the bluetooth with a corded earpiece.
one of the guys on the reels however, was a real doorstop, and let the reel
come off the jackstand. so they had a loose cannon on deck, and the wire was
going into hot gear, and the pull wasn't stopping.
we were lucky. two of the chillers cycled off at that moment, and i could
hear dennis screaming over the phone to stop.
so, what was at risk here? a wire pull, and a person i've known 30 years.
i went and bought the footpedals the next day, and have never regretted it.
the contractor who was supplying the crew and equipment does about
$100M a year in work.... they still don't have a set of these...
