I have nail salon where hot water heater circuit is tied with nail salon dryer receptacle all on one circuit.

Is their anything in NEC 2017 that require hot water heater to be on dedicated circuit?

Like almost always you NEVER provide enough details to answer the question.

Only item I found is utilization equipment nec 2017 section 210.23(A)(2) but that has to do with cord and plug connected utilization equipment and lights

What I can is Not a light but dryer receptacles 240V single phase and water heater receptacle 240V single phase

Total branch circuit load according to panel schedule is 5kw at 240V single phase load.

Breaker size is 30A branch circuit breaker supplying both dryer and water heater receptacles

Can you please tell me where do you see water heater requires separate dedicated branch circuit in NEC 2017? Please

So you want to put an electric water heater and an electric dryer on the same circuit?

I seem to vaguely recall that there is a rule requiring a separate branch circuit for any fixed in place appliance. But I might be wrong about that.

The very first sentence in that section combined with the last sentence in 210.23(B). Those are the requirement that apply to your installation.

I don’t get it 30A branch circuit supplies 240V dryer receptacle and 240V water heater receptacle. I do NOT have lights with this branch circuit

Both would be utilization equipment and both are cord and plug.

So as long as the dryer does not exceed 80% of branch circuit rating or the water heater does not exceed 80% of branch circuit rating I am good

Total load water heater plus dryer is 5kW. Branch circuit rating is 30A and 80% is 24A.

5kw at 240v is 20A which is less than 24A. so how can my situation violate or not be in compliance with 210.23(B)? Am I missing something?

I never said anything about the installation being in compliance or not. I only gave you code sections that apply, but did not offer any information as to what they say about your installation, and I am not planning on commenting about that part of your issue.

Isnt that what this thread is about? To see if it complies with code or not. I dont get it whats the hesitation about if it compiles with that section or not?

Is the not hot water heater listed for use with a cord and plug connection? Most are not.

Engineer shows it as having receptacle for the water heater not direct wired on the plans and got his stamp on it

. Remember I am just plans reviewer I am not the designer or the engineer of this project

So I can tell you whats on the plans and it shows cord plug receptacle

You need to know the actual load for both and then check against don's reference 210.23
