It is at present, but I would suggest that it is often mis-used.

We all could contribute to the solution of the problem, in a small way, by resolving to always use it, and other technical terms, correctly on this forum.

Ed, I would say that you are well grounded in the knowledge of this field. You are also doing a good job of grounding others in this field. With all that said, I tend to stay neutral on the terminology and will work with slang. :D

I know we differ on this Ed. But my thinking (and possibly wrong) is that the difficulty, (that I think we agree exists) comes from the language used by the NEC.

It's a bit of a delema. Although for the sake of convention I don't really mind using the NEC terminology. I don't feel all that good about supporting what (to me) looks like the cause of the problem.

Of course I have complete respect for your position too.

It took me a week or so reading the codebook until I understood what an ungrounded conductor was. Grounded and grounding took a while longer.

I think it just separates the pro's from the DIY's. Could anyone pick up this book for the first time and do anything with it? Before I joined this profession, and bought an NEC, I believed you could. I think it's only through our continuing revelations in the field, applying it to the book, and keeping a sharp eye that we grasp this at all. IMO.

That's what bothers me most George.

We are not sages, guardians of a sacred truth.

The NEC has no claim on the knowledge it contains.

George ,your scaring me.Basic electricy should made this easy.But hang in there your at least learning.Take some of Mikes courses ,this man does know whats going on.

Read what he posted and get back to me.I am sorry but grounded and grounding seems so simple.Perhaps not to everyone.

I know I've said some things that would tend to make me look pretty stupid once or two hundred times. My last comment stands.

Jim and Sam, you are getting close to edge.

There are areas in the Code where we are all ignorant. Others think anyone can easily understand those areas. Just because someone has had or is having a tough time with a particular area does not mean they are not trained.

If I am misunderstanding your conversation, I apologize. If not, please get off of George. :D

Charlie,not seeing where you think i am crossing the line.If i am i am sorry.My understanding is NEC is not a how it works book.I am willing to help anyone learn.I spent my last hour today guiding a helper to install his first exit sign.Had him do it live and follow step by step.He walked away feeling good.There is a differance between theory and code.All i suggested was finding help from a better source if one does not understand how something works.

Just checked to see if anyone answered my post. I think so.

So here is the simplified version of what I was asking: anyone object to using GC for grounded conductor?

Karl I am all for it, I hate typing out "Grounded Conductor" over and over.
