Seeing how there's really no 'correct' category for this (Tools, Line Work, etc), I'll put it here.

I have a Kearney crimper I've used for a long time, with good success using the three sets of dies that I got it with.

But I'd like to see if I can find more dies should the three I have not work at some future job.

All I can find is "Kearney", "0-56" and 30051-1 and 30049-2 stamped on it.

Anyone got a model number for this critter? And where to get different dies?

Wooden handles..... how old are those things?:D

I, shall we say 'inherited' them from my uncle... a retired electrician. I got 'em about 10 years ago. He got in the trade about the early 60s or so.

Anyway, I'd like to find the model number and get some more dies for it so I'm ready for anything.

You shouldn't have too much trouble finding dies, that is a pretty common tool among PoCos. Burndy makes/made one with wooden handles called a MD6-7 and Blackburn makes one called a 058. I have the Blackburn with curved hickory handles. It has a permanent 5/8" nose die for shotgun shell connectors and a die cavity for O, D, 840, etc dies. I have those 3 die sets because they are $60.00 a set and I haven't ever needed any other dies......yet. If you strike out with e-bay try the utility supply company your local PoCo uses.

If you need different dies to be ready for something different, then wouldn't you need the different crimps as well that need the different dies?:-?

I have only ever needed 3, prolly the 3 you have. And all the crimps we stock, fit one of those 3 die.

Maybe. But the crimps would be available in stock at the local supply house. The dies, however, may be a 6-week back-order.

I have leads for meters I've never used. But there have been some I bought 'just in case' and 6 or 7 years later, I need those leads. I've bought 16-pc screwdriver sets and have only used 12 of them, but the other 4 are still in the tool box. I have 3 sets of tamper-proof bits, many of which are duplicates, but I would buy one kit just because it has 2 or 3 bits I didn't have before.

Same principle applies here.

I completly agree with having more tools then you need,... cuz theres always that ONE time you need it and its worth a lot more then what it cost ya. I was just givin ya crap.
