Here is some info about amendments to the 2008 NEC. I believe #1 means the expansion to arc faults in all rooms. Anyone know what FACE means-- appears to be an acronym

The NC Building Code Council voted this morning to pass the 2008 NEC and make it North Carolina's Electrical Code, but there was a couple of amendments. The New Code will start June 1, 2008.

They are:

1- 210.12 The expansion to the FACE to other rooms will not take place until January 1, 2009. This means that we will be using the 2005 code on where FACE protection through December 31 and the 2008 Code will take over starting January 1, 2008.

2- 334.15 (C) The words Crawl Spaces was removed.

3- 406.8 (A) & (BE) The requirement for receptacles subject to wet or damp location be a listed weather-resistant type has been put off until January 1, 2009. This will match the requirements for AFCI Protection as when it will be required.

The only time I have seen FACE was in reference to a fire alarm panel:-? :-? :-?
Still glad the took out the word crawl space:grin:

Where is Roger when you need him?

I'm glad they did not rescind the AFCI. I like the extra protection.

I like the extra money
What is the code # for the requriment to have a cover ( wire protection) for recp. and switches in place for rough inspection?

Do you mean the proposal to have "wire gaurd" covers in place for boxes, so the drywaller's rotozips don't gouge the wires?

I think that was shelved. I know it didn't make it into the '08 NEC.

Here are the amendments as they stand before the NC State Legislature gets a hold on them as well as their effective date.

1) Definitions - Industrial Equipment delete proposed Article 10.10 of the North Carolina
administrative code and from Article 100 of the 2008 NEC. This simply means that Senate Bill 490
supersedes the NEC for Industrial Equipment. Effective date June 1, 2008
2) 334.15 Exposed Work - Remove the words Crawl Spaces. This means you do not have to drill out
crawl spaces (Caution the AHJ's still may require some crawl space to be protected depending on
height) Effective date June 1, 2008
3) 406.3 Receptacles in damp or wet locations. Accepted without amendment
Effective date JANUARY 1, 2009.
4) 406.11 Tamper Resistant Receptacles in Dwelling Units. Accepted without amendment
Effective date June 1, 2008
5) 680-26 (C) Pool Water. Accepted without amendment
Effective date June 1, 2008
6) 210.12 (B) AFCI Protection. Accepted without amendment
Effective date JANUARY 1, 2009
7) 90.2 (B) (5) (b). Retain the language in the 2005 NEC.
Effective date June 1, 2008
8) Others Items: Adopt Articles 210.8 (a) (3) exception from the 2005 NEC Electrical
Amendment package: A single outlet receptacle supplied by dedicated branch circuit which is
located and identified for specific use by a sewage lift pump.
Effective date June 1, 2008
9) 250.50 from the 2005 NEC Electrical Amendment package: Grounding Electrode System. If
available on premises at each building or structure served, each item in 250.52 (A) (1) through (A)
(6) shall be bonded together to form the grounding electrode system. Where none of these electrodes
are available, one or more of the electrodes specified in 250.52 (A) (4) through (A) (7) shall be
installed and used. Effective date June 1, 2008

These recommendations now go to the NC State Legislature for final adoption before it becomes law.
