Re: Near Miss
Thanks to all who posted. I think this shows us how we do have differnt opinions and we do interpet codes differently. I have to report to corporate Friday morning to tell them what we have decided to do in situations like this and make corrections to our electrical safety policy if need be. If all agree, we will make changes to all facilities (over 100.) The easiset and safest thing to do is to say we will not work inside tap boxes hot and will not pull wires with other wires that are currently hot. However I am really wrestling with this one because there will be instances where this could really make it very difficult to work. ( We run 24/7 with outages once a month) I am asking myself should this include 120volt as well? We all know 120 kills more people than any other voltage. ( is that because people are ignorant of what 120volts can do and because people will not ground a circuit because of laziness?) I guess I have to say at this point I am going to recommend that we error on the side of safety and see how that goes and then come back and make changes if need be. Will everyone follow this advice, Im not sure they will but it will be my recommendation at this point and then work through to see if we need to make exceptions at some point in the future. I have enjoyed reading and talking with everyone and I hope this has showed us both sides of the coin. We need to give our employees the right tools including training and policies and be able to keep our place of employment making a profit or we will all be safe sitting at home watching China continue to export more and more. So we will do things differently for now and see how we can keep people safe and sill get things done. Thanks again to everyone.
