Hello,

I am stuck with article NEC 314.29(A).
Does anyone have any clue or code/standard reference that states the maximum distance from the ceiling access panel to electrical boxes in the ceiling space?

314.29
(A) In Buildings and Other Structures. Boxes and conduit bodies
must be installed so the wiring contained within is accessible without
removing any part of the building or structure.

410.118
Luminaires recessed in ceilings, floors, or walls must not be used to
access outlet, pull, junction boxes, or conduit bodies unless the box
or conduit body is an integral part of the listed luminaire.

You have to decide if you can access the box or not. If yes then it's accesible. It doesn't need to be convenient or easy.

Good question. Not only in commercial but how about residential, kitchen or bath remodel, turn a box around so it's in the attic corner, accessible on your belly burrowing through insulation.

Steep pitch roof maybe or even likely, low pitch roof maybe not.
