700-9(a) Revise 700-9 (a) to read as follows:

(a) Identification. All boxes and enclosures (including transfer switches, generators, and power panel(s) for emergency circuits shall be permanently marked by yellow color so they will be readily identified as a component of an emergency circuit or system. Acceptable means of marking shall include, but not be limited to, a permanently affixed identification
nameplate, yellow in color with black lettering.

Will this code be revised to include all types of receptacles (in yellow)as well? Currently, in hospitals, we install red hospital grade receptacles for illuminated devices, gfi's, as well as all convenience hospital grade emergency circuit outlets.

Please advise current & future status of NEC 700-9(a).

Thanks,

AJ White

AJ this forum is not "official" and has no direct ability to influence the NEC.

Unfortunately, this past Friday was the last day to submit Proposals to the NFPA for revisions to the 2008 NEC.

Now your best strategy is to wait until the NFPA publishes the Report on Proposals (ROP) around June 23, 2006 and see if there is an active Proposal to 700.9(A) where your suggestion would be relevant. Otherwise you will now need to wait until sometime in early 2008 before Proposals open for the 2011 Edition.

Is there really a code compliant way of installing a receptacle supplied from an Article 700 Emergency system?

What types of portable equipment are legally required and classed as emergency by municipal, state, federal, or other codes, or by any governmental agency having jurisdiction?

Wouldn't that be an Article 702 optional standby type load?

FWIW I think the color should be a design decision.

I don't like this at all. A lot of other things are painted yellow - like stairs and hand rails. no reason to confuse things by painting an outlet yellow.
