Hello,
I am looking to confirm that NEC Article 440 covers the wiring requirements for all refrigeration equipment, including industrial packaged systems. A packaged refrigeration system could be an air-cooled chiller with one or two compressors, evaporator, control panel, etc. all on a common base-frame.
Thank you,
Mike

Assuming you are referring to these type of units.

Then yes. The scope of 440 states this.

440.1 Scope. The provisions of this article apply to electric motor-driven air-conditioning and refrigerating equipment and to the branch circuits and controllers for such equip- ment. It provides for the special considerations necessary for circuits supplying hermetic refrigerant motor- compressors and for any air-conditioning or refrigerating equipment that is supplied from a branch circuit that sup- plies a hermetic refrigerant motor-compressor.

Thank you! To expand on the original question, how is the wiring arrangement, design and installation of the electrical system handled? Things like material choice in low ambient, cable terminations, cable identification, etc. aren't mentioned in Art. 440. Where can I find requirements for these types of items?

Are you are asking what methods/designs are used in supplying the unit with power?

Depends on the conditions.

Basically, yes. The main power supply is 460/3/60 and there is also a control power supply of 110V. What code can I reference to understand the requirements and conditions they are dependent upon?

Thanks again!

There is no single NEC section that covers it all. The NEC does not work that way.

In reality, prolly at least 15-20 code sections apply to the simplest design.

Ok thank you. How does UL play a role? The electrical panels on the systems are designed and built to UL508a.
