I am looking to purchase a 2005 code change book and would like some opinions. The three I am considering are:

</font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Stallcup's Illustrated Code Changes</font>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"></font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">IAEI Analysis of Changes</font>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"></font>
  • <font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Mike Holt's Code Change Book</font>
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">
I used the IAEI Analysis for the 2002 and was very happy with it, however the other two choices look very good as well.

What are you using and is there any "must have" aspects of any of the above mentioned books. Thanks.

Re: NEC code change resources

Bryan, I went to the IAEI Western Section meeting and got a copy of their change book. I have no experience with either of the other two. The IAEI edition has been getting better every cycle and this cycle is no exception. I am guessing that the others are improving as well. The only thing I can tell you is that I am really satisfied with what I have. :D

Re: NEC code change resources

I normally get at least two of the changes books, as each author sees it a bit differently. For 2002 I used the IAEI and Mike's. In the past I have also used Stallcup's and one thing that he did that the others did not was provide the proposal number so that you can easily find the proposal that resulted in the change. I liked that feature, but did not like his text as well as the other 2.

Mike Holts has the best graphics of any. He leaves out the changes that are not really changes.
I have like the IAEI text seems like this year it is co-published with the NFPA.

Re: NEC code change resources

Depending on your budget and the extent to which you may study or use the books, I, like Don, like more than one book. The different authors definitely have some different ideas. I personally buy all of them, but for budgets that may be smaller, I would start with Mike Holts (his graphics are very well done), Analysis (IAEI), Stallcups( he has a different approach, seems more commercial).

For those who may not want just the changes, Mike Holt's Understanding the NEC is very well done - it covers some of the changes as well as the 'other' parts of the code.
BTW - I am not paid to say this.

Re: NEC code change resources

Don: The analysis of changes provided the proposal and comment number on the 2002 and the 2005 editions.

I agree with the others. I have the IAEI and Mike's for 2002, I alos have the IAEI for the 2005 and Mike's library on order.
