Got a brain teaser for you. I'm studying for the masters and came upon a practice question: "In a Class 1 circuit, what maximum ampacity shall be allowed on a 16 AWG conductor?" Among the multiple choices are; 8 amps, and 10 amps.
You'll be looking at 725.23 and 725.27(A).
What do i do if this question comes up on the master's test??
 
my guess is they are looking for 725.23 - 10 A (jmshio) (since it doesn't specify that its a fixture and I don't think you can assume that 402.5 applies)

I've seen more 700 violations than I want to talk about.
First, what are the other possible anwsers ?
Second, 16 AWG, Class 1 is part of the equation.
 
Why

The code states the minimum install is for the average Joe, is 14 AWG with-in average construction.

Now

700's lets in the can of worms, signal wire,(and they don't call it that) etc... its really a study to be a class act... :rolleyes:

Hint you can go with the lower AWG if you met the isolation/protection...

The code is always in play it might just get referred... (not deferred) to other....

Look at article 725.43 for the answer....7amps 18 awg, 10 amps 16 awg.
