Hi,
I'm new to the forum and have a simple question. I bought a house that has a 10kw standby generator with a 200 amp service rated ATS. I later found out that the generator was installed by the owner not an electrician. My question concerns proper grounding and separation of the neutral and grounding bars in the distribution panel. It appears that when the house was wired (30 yrs ago) the ground wires from each circuit were braided together and some were attached to the neutral bar, and some on the other side of the panel went to the ground bar. I've heard that code is neutrals and grounds in the distribution panel must be separate and the only spot that goes to the grounding rod is at the transfer switch. Also, you must have 2 grounding rods with 8 foot separation as well. What I see is again, some of the ground wires spun together and going to the neutral bar but before that, they loop around other ground wires going to the grounding bar thus electrically tying them together What I think I need to do is separate them, correct? Also, I see a # 4 grounding wire going from the meter pan to the distribution panel housing and the ground bar. I'd appreciate some advice.
