Gentlemen,

Please see question below from one of our engineers. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

Situation:
We have a design situation where we have a 72? steel pipe (cement lined and coated) passing under and perpendicular to a 12 KV duct bank. A team member has expressed concern over stray currents from the duct bank affecting the pipe, and thinks that there is a minimum distance that should be maintained to eliminate this affect.

Question: What is the minimum distance that we should maintain between the pipe and the duct bank? Please include why and on what your answer is based (current, protection, code requirements, etc)

Any additional insights are always welcome!

Re: NEC or Safety Code Requirements for 12kV Stray currents

The 12 kV duct bank would have shielded cables so I wouldn't think there would be a problem. The bigger concern is digging into one while digging up the other for some reason. :D
