Hello,

I have a project that is in an enclosed metal building with wood floors. 100 amp 480 volt three phase supply. Industrial application for motors, automation, lighting and receptacles.

All equipment to be installed inside of building, aprox sf is 400. lots of water and chemical storage and processing. Building is completley filled with piping and tanks.

Question is:

Do we have to install water/raintight electrical system? If so what/where do I look in the NEC? I need reference materials.

Thanks, Jason

I will just quote from the code.
300.6 Protection Against Corrosion and Deterioration.
Raceways, cable trays, cablebus, auxiliary gutters, cable
armor, boxes, cable sheathing, cabinets, elbows, couplings,
fittings, supports, and support hardware shall be of materials
suitable for the environment in which they are to be installed.

It is up to the designer to carefully consider what is actually required to be suitable for the environment.

Just having pipes and tanks around does not mean you have to get fancy or expensive, nor does it automatically make it a damp or wet area which would trigger certain requirements.

With new design use PVC and plastics rather than metals.
