17,000 sq. ft. medical office suite.

minimal daylighting, demand response.
slam dunk.

not available for a while. customer has
hair on fire, ready to go next week or the

Honestly......I didn't even know that was a thing. We usually use a photocell for outdoor lighting and a wall switch for inside.

lutron, wattstopper, and nLight offer in-house programming, at
$1,500 per day.

there is a shortage of programmers out here. you need to book
3~4 weeks out.

So we are talking more than just wiring up a 3 way switch!!

Thats amazing! But I would assume those prices and schedules are specific to the People's Republic of California Are they that high in the rest of 'Merica?

Is it anything like programming PLC? I can slog my way through function block and generally shine in ladder logic.

I'm going to have to do a little Googling. How do you get your foot in the door? Work experience? Certifications?

Say you are a freelance guy.......book on average 3 days a week. 52 weeks a year - 2 weeks for Christmas and New years - the week of 4th of July = 49 work weeks.

3 x $1000 x 49 = $147,000 Those are some big numbers. Whats the overhead like?

that is a nationwide price, to the best of my knowledge.

easier. you are configuring devices off of a browser.

start here: acuity lighting university. system... nLight.
you open an account there, and sign up for their three-day programming class.
you buy a plane ticket to where the class is. they will pick you up at the airport,
put you in a nice $250 a day room for the time there, feed you three very nice
meals a day, and pour stuff in your head. then they will take you back to the
airport for your flight home.

cost: you pay for the plane ticket.
work experience? be good with 'pooters.
most of the programmers aren't electricians.

the one really good nLight programmer i know makes about $150K a year taxable.
the downside is you are living on the road, unless you are in a major metro area.

while i know some programming, i just do lighting certifications at this time.
that is unique to california, and kind of a niche thing. i'll do programming on
smaller jobs, as it allows me to fit them into my schedule easier.
