I will try to provide as much detail as I can.
I had electrician come to look at wiring my generator to my main panel.
He suggest
1. install outdoor 30 amp outlet outside for the gen to connect to. I can only run 120v because of generator limitation
2. run 6/3 wire from that up to my main panel (6/3 for future if I ever wanted to run 220) but the plug and wiring would need to be modified if I ever go that route
3. install a 30 amp single pole breaker in the main panel on bus bar A
4. connect the 6/3 wire to the breaker (add a lock and tag stuff to this breaker and panel)

more info
1. it seems safe enough method but i have questions that I didn't really trust the answers I got. I understand this is not a 100% idiot proof setup which he pointed out.
2. my main panel is wired so that ALL of the circuits I want to use are on bus bar A. I have one 220 device on that bus (oven) that would have to be turned off
3. my Generator has a neutral floating
4. I think he said my neutral and ground were tied together in the panel. I should have written down what he told me
5. My big question is would i be guaranteed that i could not back feed the grid through the neutral/ground and he said no way possible.
6. I have written down my total wattage usage for bus bar A and my generator can run it all except for the 220 oven. I would probably not ever run all of the breakers only 1 -3 depending on where I am in the house.
7. the lock and tag should always confirm that the main feeders are off before the generator breaker is turned on. this also why i question because i can see that the mains are disconnected but I can plainly see a ground wire that runs back to the grid that would NOT be disconnected.

I am just looking for confirmation that what he said is correct and the method is safe.
thanks for any info provided
