Need help finding the right circuit breaker

Another option is to get a helper and cycle a load on/off plugged into that receptacle. A hair dryer/saw, etc, anything with a decent load. You could even stretch an extension cord into the the elec. room and cycle the load yourself while amping the circuits.

Years ago we used Lamp Flashers to do this, but the 60 watt maximum would make it harder to see the current pulses.

I still have a home-made device that uses a adjustable time-delay relay and control relay to "pulse" a larger load. When working alone, it was a "leg" saver.

Thanks for all the suggestions, you electricians rock . I actually did what some of you suggested. I had a new guy helping me with our radios on and he was flipping breakers while I was watching the outlet. Like I said, we did all five elect. rooms which are all in the first floor, and the guy even did the one for the door alarms and of course, we had to reset all eleven door alarms after that . I think I should have asked him to watch the outlet instead.

Anyway, just like Broadgage said, there was another panel that I failed to check and I actually tend to forget about this one all the time. This panel was installed in the 2nd floor when the 2nd flr. dining room extn. was built and somehow the circuit got included into it.

Again, thanks for the help guys. I didn't know about this circuit tracers before and I guess I will have to get one of this and try it myself.

Poor man's receptacle analyzer, how does this work?

Sorry about not replying sooner, I had forgotten about this.

Take a 125 volt 15 amp male cord cap and two sockets. Wire one socket hot to neutral and the other hot to ground, identify them so you know which is which.

Now, when plugged in (if the ground has not been reversed with either the hot or neutral) the conditions of the wiring will be as follows

  • Both lamps are on; The wiring is correct
  • Neutral lamp on grounding lamp off; Open ground or, hot / neutral reversed
  • Grounding lamp on neutral lamp off; Open neutral
  • Both lamps off; open hot or, open neutral and ground
