Hi Guys,
Does anyone know if there would be any determinantal effects to a dry-type outdoor rated transformer being located outdoor and only energized periodically throughout a year? It is installed such that it would only be energized when a standby generator needs to supply the load to a facility.
The concern is due to interaction between the transformer windings and the weather elements.
I contacted the manufacturer to get their input, just wanted to hear some practical experience. There is an option to keep the unit continuously energized with the secondary open when it is not in service.
The unit is rated 100kVA.
Thanks,
EE
