I have a house where the customer is remodeling their kitchen and their existing electrical service panel is hidden in a cabinet. The customer would like to move it to an exterior wall using a raintight enclosure. Is this possible with household wiring. My are of expertice is in industrial applications.

Some things to ask:
1. Are they willing to have j-boxes in there cabinet (This will depend. Many things to consider--depending on the situation)
2. Will the new service location be acceptable to the serving utility

It can be done, but it want be simple.

panel in a cabinet? got a pic? you can install a new panel outside but there is a lot of other stuff you should know if you are an industrial guy. do you know someone that will help you doing residential?

Yes it can be done.

I always try to do it in a manner where the existing panel will be just an empty shell or removed all together if the HO wants to patch. But, this will only hold if everything goes my way.

1: Attic and/or crawl space under house
and/or
2: I am able to place the panel backed up to the exsisting panel.


I try to eliminate the need to use an old/exsisting panel as a JB if I can avoid it.
