Nema1a?

:-? We have a project where the specifications call out for individual combination starters being provided with NEMA1A enclosures (having gasketed covers).

I am unaware of any manufacturer poviding individual stand-alone equipment (such as starters, disconnect swtiches, contactors, etc.) with this style of enclosure available as an option. The only time I've ever seen NEMA1A is for large Motor Control Centers.

Is my assumption correct?

If not, can someone provde me with a link to manufacturers providing this?

Many thanks!

The only time I have heard the designation NEMA 1A was from motor control center manufactures. It has also been called NEMA 1 gastketed. In a true NEMA 12 MCC enclosure every removable panel (wireway covers, top plates etc.) need to be gasketed along with the individual buckets. In NEMA 1A only the buckets themselves are gasketed.

NEMA 1A is not a true construction standards. It exists in MCC's simply because they can put a NEMA 12 bucket into a NEMA 1 structure. Almost no other electrical enclosure is assembled from those types of interchangeable components. Well I guess, theoretically, you could make a equivalent NEMA 1A panelboard by putting a NEMA 12 trim onto a NEMA 1 box, if that type of interchangeable trim were available.

Dead on. NEMA 1A is not "real", it is a construct of the MCC industry, just as Jim says. There is no value in a gasketed door when the box design is not intended to keep anything out anyway, other than to stop it from rattling. Go with NEMA 1 and tape some cheap gasketing on the door lip. Same effect. If you get challenged, ask to be shown the NEMA ICS-2 enclosure specification that describes the design standards for "NEMA 1A".

Hint; it doesn't exist...
