neutral splice

Can you tell me if using the screws on the side of an outlet to connect the neutal wires. (ie... line in on one screw and line out on the other.

Yes this is permitted for a two wire circuit. A MWBC cannot use the two screws on the device to connect the neutrals together. The continuity of the neutral conductor cannot rely solely on the device therefore the neutral conductors would need to be spliced and pigtailed.

and just to expand on his statement, the grounding conductors always need to be pigtailed to a device.:smile:

So pulling THHN through EMT and leaving a loop about 16" long, then skinning the middle is a violation?

I guess it was originally posted on 12-23-08 @ 11:11 PM by Stickyboy 1375 Titled Burt Receptacle. He stated that he found loose connection of a grounded/neutral conductor up stream using the device as a splice. Someone had posted a reply on this post & that is why it showed up as a new post yesterday.
