Re: Neutrals

I am probably just being paranoid but is it bad practice to hook up 2 wire homeruns randomly during a panel swap. I guess a 2 wire could share a neutral somwhere else in the house, although I dont know why you would do that. Do you guys go through the trouble of phasing every single wire in resendential panel if they are all 2 wire. Just trying to be the best I can. thanks for the help.

Jim,
Does this amount to a kitchen ?
:) .

I have caused problems enough times over the years by not knowing what is on the circuit, that I'm swinging into the new service center, to realize that I am ahead if I take the time to tag and reconnect.

That's at an absolute minimum, in my opinion.

110.22 requires that we label the new panel, and use language that indicates the purpose of the circuit. I don't know about the area that you work, but in my experience, the labels I read, if they are even there, are mostly meaningless or blank. I personally prefer to map the system. If I can talk the customer into doing it, so much the better, as they will have increased there own understanding of the their own system.

Re: Neutrals

Al every panel we install has a computer generated label that we stick on the inside of the door. Most manufactures don't give you enough space to write everything thats on a circuit. ITE was bad about this for a while then they came out with those stickers that you put beside the breakers. But since we already make our own why change. We have the laminate and glossy sticker paper to make the labels on and we even include our company logo at the top for advertising to boot. I get a lot of comments on them as to how nice it is to have a panel and know which breaker does what.

Re: Neutrals

Wayne,

I put together a two column table in a simple MS Word file that I use for mine. Being a lone ranger I work in existing dwellings with a lot of variation in panel configuration, I have found the Word file to be a format I can modify readily as needed.
