Hello all , I have a job for myself that a person wants a new bath gfi but the panel is not close by , so my question is can i run a line from the light switch .... I,m hoping this might fall under some remodeling code .... i also live in new jersey .... thanks

only if that light is on a circuit in the bathroom by itself. its most likely not.

Sorry, Coop, but legally, any new installation must conform to present requirements.

Besides, if the new receptacle will be used for a hair dryer, it should not be added to an existing, and probably maxed-out, 15a circuit.

I have an associated question. If a customer had an existing GFCI outlet, in the bathroom, as part of a 15 amp lighting circuit, would re-locating it nearby also be considered a new installation?

Technically, yes. Your AHJ would be the place to find out.
