New Electrical contractor 2024

I would like to know where to start with Electrical contracting in general! with service work In competition with handyman men doing all the permitless jobs, would it be easier to go straight into commercial or government contracting.in 2024-2025. I’ve been marketing a lot for myself and avoiding marketing services as Angie’s list and thumbtack and don’t want to cave to peer pressure lol

I’d go with the field I like the most and see the potential and character of it in myself and plan for long-term.

Develop an online presence. And update the photos daily! Google listing imo was best thing for business

In my early days of starting out in the world of contracting ... I bid a job for a small shopping center. The bid documents stated not to include the lighting because the tenants have not been selected yet. So, our bid was selected. Before we signed, the developer asks if our bid included the lighting. We said no, because the documents stated not to include the lighting.

That was my first inclination that the bidding process was flawed.

After several more run ins with developers and taking a General Contractor to court on a Mechanics Lein (which took me five years to settle) I changed to being a HVAC service contractor. Best move I ever made !

Do you know why HVAC is the only trade that can refuse to sell parts to unlicensed contractors?

It's the requirement of the HVAC manufacturers that the purchasers have a C20 license.
