From the IEC website:
"The great majority of them come from industry, while others from commerce, government, test laboratories, research laboratories, academia and consumer groups also contribute to the work."

I'm not sure what "industry" means above - manufacturers and unions like the U.S.? Overall a similar model anyway, maybe more of a tchnical representation - but I'm sure still prone to outside influence...

I would not wan't a model that excluded public comment

As I noted it should be modified to adhere to US law.

I'm not convinced we need one all-inclusive electrical standard. In fact, probably very good to separate transmission & distribution from premise wiring...

Would you offer some reasoning?

Frankly whatever standard is adopted becomes US law so I'm not sure where you're going on that. Secondly the IEC/ISO/EN series are far and away nothing resembling a single document. They break things down as badly or worse than the NFPA does.

As to an all-inclusive document; it is a matter of perspective.
Would you prefer to have all this published as a single $4000.00 volume weighing 85 pounds?
Encyclopedia Electrica
Chapter 1 Common Electrical Code
Chapter 2 Electrical Safety
Chapter 3 Industrial Machinery
Chapter 4 Hospital and Health
...
Remember, you folks who rely primarily on the NEC are not the only electrical party in town. Most of my work deals with the NFPA79 which an industrial plant can be foolish to live without. What about telecommunications? Entertainment media? They get all sorts of variations within the code. The NEC is just the tip of the iceberg. One document? No thanks. Personally I would rather buy them separately as they pertained to my needs.

Which also brings back to mind that whole "Subjective vs Explicit" thing. Yes I have seen subjective statements used corruptly. I have seen far more things that were explicit used corruptly. The NEC boils this particular situation down to - if it makes the panel wet then weatherproof the panel. I don't want anything more explicit than that. I'm a big boy.

Please do not attribute things to me that I did not write.

I am just looking for simplicity, consistency and coherence. Woe me.....:)

Don't you believe in CHANGE?
