You are looking at the underside of an older plank roof with new plywood sheathing and a new roof.

Yes, they actually ran the NM cable over the rafters inside the space left between the planks and the new sheathing.

Do you think they have protector plates on the roof under the shingles in those areas?

I've seen that an awful lot. Old slate roofs were skip sheathed, then they plywood over top of the skip sheathing for a regular asphalt shingle roof. That 3/4 or 1 inch space between the top of the rafter and the plywood (between the runs of skip sheathing) is really tempting to run cables in. I sure don't do it. That 1-1/4" rule still applies, the way I read it.

Yes, the rule applies and in the case of this commercial structure, this must be addressed during renovation along with the removal of the brand new 12/2NM cable inside the dropped ceiling.

Wow, first time I've ever seen that. That's been there for some time as that's old "Ettcoflex" romex which hasn't been made in decades.

He's got more information about gas valves for early 60's gas furnaces in his head now than any man rightly ought to have, too.

An minor correction: I'm always a winner at Useless Information Trivial Pursuit. ;)

Yeah, I am a pro at retrofitting obsolete Honeywell CS82 pilots in case anyone has a problem with theirs.
