new service to rural pole building

Got a rural outbuilding and just installed a free standing meter box with seperate 200 amp disconnect by the pole. the building is 400 feet away from the disconnect. should i use 3 wire or 4 wire to the building, there are not any other sources of parallel grounds from the disconnect to the building

"Should". That is a great question may I may spin it.

Forget the code. Is one wiring method safer than the other? Assuming no paralleled conductors.
