IMO 110.3 does not let you violate 310.11(A).

I'm a bit taken back here (at no one in particular, but the situation).

110.3 is basically ~ use listed/labeled items as designed.

310.11(A) says it must have "W".

The literature for the product does list it as "wet".......WTF, over!

What is really slick about this product ,is that the wire is numbered in footage.Which is great for parallel runs.

I have a piece of this in my hand and it is rated MTW,THWN-2,THHN gas and oil resistant ,ct use,sun light resistant. In the large type letters it says thhn, but on the oposite side it gives all the other ratings.

So does this stuff have anything more that "Southwire No lube Simpulll XX AWG THHN" printed on it? If so, that would be much less information than they usually print.
The picture I posted a few posts back in this thread contains the entire markings on the extra piece of 1/0 I brought home to photograph this evening. That's all it has on it.

EDIT: I'm glad I read RUWired's post just now. I flipped it over, and very faintly are all the additional markings on the back side. Very darned faintly. Gotta hold it a certain way in the light to even read it. Thank you a bunch, Rick! I think the inspector will like that better than a catalog page printout. Particularly in light of the code section Bob points out.

I look at a piece of this stuff today and noticed it said THHN on one side and had the complete markings on the other side. If you were to use this as a wet conductors you would hope that the inspector sees the right side.

I would hope the inspector would trust the lit. I would provide w/o having to remove conductors to prove it.

EDIT::mad:
This is getting under my skin....why wouldn't they have the THWN indication as loud as the THHN indication???

For exactly the reasons noted in knocking down the install

It looks as if the large print(THHN) is part of the numbering and advertising.

I used this for a 350' underground pipe run, and had the same experience - I saw the bold white "THHN" and not the faint "THWN", until I saw it on-line, then looked reeeeal close.

However, it was a relatively easy pull. I like the stuff.

I wiped down the back side with some WD-40 and lit it up with a 6000 degree Kelvin reading light and took these pics. It does have a THWN rating on the back also. The second picture, at about the middle, shows the THWN.

As an inspector, I would always accept the literature from a legitimate company. I can clearly see in the literature that this conductor is dual rated. I say have at it.
It sure would not hurt for Southwire to help us in the field with better identification methods though.

Is there a cost premium for this product?
No, doesn't seem to be. It's just what the supply house handles now if they deal with Southwire. Same with the SimPull type of NM cable.

Southwire SIMpull

Southwire, after reviewing the numerous posts in this forum, has decided to change the large print on SIMpull THHN to make it clear that it is rated for both wet and dry locations. Going forward, the large print on SIMpull THHN will also include THWN-2.

A little background about the "large" print on the conductor ?
The large print was added to help installers and inspectors to quickly identify the cable size. This was in response to complaints that the required NEC/UL print is typically too small to be easily read. The required NEC/UL print legend will continue to be printed on the opposite side of the "large" print on the cable.

I'm glad to hear it, the concern being that an inspector would only see the big lettering and not the small stuff. I'm sometimes amazed at the impact that we can have here on this forum.
