New Standby Emerg. Generator for a residence.

250.32 is for structures fed by a feeder or branch circuit. The generator is not being fed, it is the source. I could make a case that 250.32 doesn't apply. (i might lose, but...)

generator being a source throws a little twist to it, but if it were a trash compactor or AC unit like some examples mentioned - still comes down to whether this potential structure is supplied by a feeder or branch circuit as to whether a grounding electrode is code required.
