Hi everyone I just recieved the mike holt training series for the journeyman test just taking it day by day lots of info. Is anyone on this board is from Massachusetts or the surrounding area. I'm a 2nd year apprentice looking for a better company to work for...one that will actually teach me instead of treat me like one of the cattle...I have met a few cool guys who have taught me alot but the rest of the guys are just worthless when it comes to helping apprentices..probably because they dont have the answers themselves. I would just like to know if anyone knows any real solid non union shops in the Boston.. or metro north/south...that are good companies for apprentices to work for....well I was not sure where to post this so I posted it where most everyone comes..well any help I would appreciate it ..thanks and looking to be on this forum alot. :D

There are a quite a few members from Ma here, just hold tight, some of them will reply.

I'm from MA as well and work for a small shop. I also know many other small shop owners. Pm me if you need info.

I don't work in MA, but I can tell you that what you describe sounds like the norm to me. There are always going to be some who help and others who don't. That is simply the way it goes.

Thats in any state. Some stop and think before teaching. Are they teaching you to do there job cheaper ?

Members, leave the union / non union part of this alone in the open forum.

You are more than welcome to PM beanman26 and recommend the union, merit or a another job that keeps him warm and dry.

Thanks

Thanks

thanks for the reply guys....they are not teaching me cheap ways to do things or hack work it just seemed like for the first year I was at this project that was XXXXX from the start. leaving two 1st year apprentices on a 32 unit condo job alone about 80% of the time, now the job is XXXXX from underbidding and everything else plus we pulled out because of money issues but honsestly I doubt we are going back there...us first years doing probably $70,000 worth of extra work without backcharging..foreman seemed not to care about anything never checked my work..never answered any of my questions yet he is still here. The new foreman I'm with is cool he could not believe some of the XXXXX I told him me and another guy were doing by ourselves......he said no matter what happens on that job it's not your fault buddy it's the foreman's he should have been there or at least of had some licensed guys out there..I mean XXXXX that project was XXXXX from the get go....but now this new project I am on seems structured..so it seems good but ya know I just wanted to know more of what is out there. I really want to get towards motor control related work/Industrial..are there apprenticeships out here for the guys in MA that focus on this and actually hire apprentices..well any more info would be appreciated
