Has anyone heard of any developments on the new receptacle type AFCI device that will be allowed in the 2008 NEC?

Re: New type receptacle AFCI

Nope! But the 2008 would need to change the wording of the code so that the AFCI is not required to protect the entire branch circuit. Is that what the last blurb in 210.12 B is about? I even read the hand book, but I got lost guess I'm not with it today!

Re: New type receptacle AFCI

I talked with Mark Ode with UL the other day about this. He was saying that the indusrty's general feeling is that these won't be receptacle outlets at all, but rather a blank-face device with a test and reset button. There is also one company that has such a product listed, but might not market it much, considering the very restricted uses for it.

guesseral I have the 2005 IAEI book of changes and in that they show an example of using a receptacle type AFCI to protect a circuit added to a fuse panel.

Run conduit from the fuse panel to the box containing the AFCI then run NM from there to the bedroom circuits.

Also easier to make changes :D Need another circuit pull one out and pull 2 in.Do that with nm

iwire. Then I was reading the handbook I just wasn't getting it, but then you mentioned the fuse panel. Now it makes since, just wasn't clicking, I guess pictures really do help!
