I can remember back in the late 80's (VAIGLY) using phase tape (BLK,RED,BLU,BRN,O,YEL,PURP) on ungrounded conductors #8 or smaller was a violation. I know that today using phase tape on any size ungrounded conductor is permissable. But can anybody please let me know when this change happened and which code book i can find the old code article. Thanks

As long as I've been in the trade, identification of the GROUNDED circuit conductor has limitations (200.6), but taping ungrounded conductors to indicate phase is not limited by conductor size. 210.5(C) does not reference conductor size.
