I am a new home owner that tends to do a lot of DIY stuff.

I am currently inquiring about updating my electric at my house. this should be a pretty quick, cut, and dry answer but google searching has led me to no answer but stumbled across this forum.

my load center was updated per previous home owner (not sure on time frame but I think he mentioned 2012). but I would like to upgrade it to a few more breaker slots to accomadate all the updates the previous owner made. there were a ton of shared circuits through out the house that I have now seperated, how ever I still need to share some circuits to fit the current panel.

this is the information off the load center:

GE powermark plus
front cat no. TM20BC
120/240 125 amp max 1 phase 3 wire authorized breakers THQL, THHQL, TXQL
TM2010C
MOD 1 K602

the current load center has 20 slots for breakers and all but 1 are currently occupied.

can I keep the current "can/box" and simply upgrade the "guts" to a larger number of slots? I imagine GE made the box so that several (sorry my ignorance isn't up to date on terminology) load centers or area where the main feed, neutrals, buss bars, and breakers mount can be some what universal to fit several different applications??

the main issue is that the kitchen has been updated to include a dishwasher, over the range microwave, and garbage disposal. I would prefer to put all 3 (and the fridge/stove) on their own circuits (which I think is required per Chicago code). I would also like to run a 220 line out to the garage in the future for added equipment like an air compressor, welder, etc.

I currently have the microwave tied in to a 20A circuit that also feeds the gfci in bathroom, the stove tied in a 15A with the dishwasher and basement lights, the fridge tied into all the 20A GFCI's above the counter top, and the garabage disposal tied into the 15A "switches circuit" for the kitchen (exhaust fan, ceiling fan/light, light above sink) I assume non of this is to code but a vast improvement of what it was!

I have to double check but I was informed that the older code use to be a max of 20 slots, but now is at a max of 32 (I could be wrong) I'm pretty sure I would be able to get by comfortably with a 24 slot but anything above that would be a plus and would allow for expansion if needed.

I tried looking up a contact # for GE or/and email address I could contact so that I can speak with someone direct, but was unsuccesful.

if anyone could provide a solid answer, maybe even some part numbers? or a number or email to some one they think would have the answers I would be very appreciative!! thanks for taking the time to read through my post, and appreciate all, and any advice - Shawn
