Greetings from Germany,

I hope that someone is familiar with NFPA 86-2011.
My Company manufactures gas Mixers like the ones covered by section 13.5.6 of the code. We are using an in-house developed PLC (which is not listed for anything) with a Touchscreen for Controlling Solenoid valves, Alarm functions, etc.

The question is: do we have to comply with chapter 8 Safety Equipment and Application? The reason I'm asking is because NFPA 86 is focussing on safety of furnaces, while the gas mixer is not really a part of that - or is it?

NFPA 86 is a standard and not a code, unless it is specifically adopted by a local jurisdiction.

If 86 is not a code, then the product just needs to be listed in most cases as expected.
