I understand that. Was also curious as to why they seem not to sell only RGS nipples. You cut EMT to whatever length you need and put connectors on the end to make a nipple.
You might not always have the equipment handy to make a RGS nipple (plus it takes time) whereas all you need for an EMT nipple is a saw.I understand that. Was also curious as to why they seem not to sell only RGS nipples.
Some like chase nipples and offset nipples are more of a fitting than RGS conduit but it is made from the same materials excerpt the chase nipples seam to be die cast.So nipples are not always RGS.
Two reasons, one it's cheaper to buy them than make them in the field. And two, very short nipples are difficult or impossible to thread in the field with standard threading equipment. Was also curious as to why they seem not to sell only RGS nipples.
I don't think that the NEC defines or even uses the term nipple. You'd probably have to look at something like the UL white book to get a definition. I can't think of a case of where it would make a difference if something was actually a nipple or not.So nipples are not always RGS.
Well, they could be IMC, PVC or aluminum. The term transcends electrical work too, so add brass, stainless etc.So nipples are not always RGS.
So by definition it cannot apply to EMT. A short piece of EMT is just a short piece of EMT.4
: a pipe coupling consisting of a short piece of threaded tubing
A common assumption based on the 24" ampacity adjustment rule.To me a nipple is any piece of conduit 24" or less.
Where is that definition from?Well, they could be IMC, PVC or aluminum. The term transcends electrical work too, so add brass, stainless etc.
Definition of ”nipple” as it relates here:
So by definition it cannot apply to EMT. A short piece of EMT is just a short piece of EMT.
Dictionary.Where is that definition from?
That is the correct dictionary, but no idea of what it really means
It depends on your conduit installation method.Standard lengths as shown are available but if you are in-between pre made lengths then yes.Do you guys usually make your own or buy them "prefab" as you see below
Tubing or not tubing; that is the question.the leisure activity of riding on water or snow on a large inflated inner tube.
