Nm-b romex

Can you run nm-b romex.through a block wall for an outside device with out a sleeve

Many electricians do just that however, the authority having jurisdiction could call you on protection from damage. 334.15(B)
 
We recently had a similar thread, I'm not sure how the block is going to damage the cable.


Concrete block holes are often made with a hammer head so they are not smooth. The wire laying on top of those edges could, in time, conceivably get damaged

Unless for some reason that cable is moving in the hole it could be there for a hundred years without damage. :giggle:
 
I know there is not a big chance that the nm could be harmed however house on busy thoroughfares shake quite a bit. I just think an inspector may hit on it. Years ago in this area there was a local inspection dept that would call on that. We would sleeve the wire with a short piece of pvc thru the wall. They don't seem to call that one anymore for some reason.. hahaha
 
Also to be considered is uses not permitted 334.12(B)(4). Wet or damp locations.
